Did you know that the genetically modified Bt. Maize, a staple food for most South Africans, has failed to deliver as promised?

Good people,

The month of March is here with us with Easter fast approaching and the end of the first quarter of 2016!

From Organic Consumers Alliance (OCA) and our partners, we continue in our steadfast believe that: “ Your Health is Your First Wealth.”

  • Did you know that South Africa has gained the notoriety of being the first country in the world to allow their staple food, maize, to be genetically modified? Do we want to be next?
  • Genetically modified foods have negative health effects….more and more people are coming down with diseases that were previously thought of as rare or only afflicting older people and certain strata of society: the cancers, for example, are now indiscriminately on the INCREASE…or have you note noticed that pattern?
  • Among the key risk factors that our modern and technologically advanced lifestyle has contributed to is an increase in environmental toxins, which apart from traditional ones, like tobacco smoking, include increased use of agro-chemicals, like glyphosate, which are often used in conjunction with genetically modified crops, ostensibly to increase yield to feed the world!
  • Did you know that more than 20 years since GMOs where introduced, the number of hungry people has remained slight less than a billion? What happened with GMOs feeding the world?
  • Did you know, however, that since GMOs were introduced, especially in the USA, the number of people with obesity has significantly increased? Obesity is a form of malnutrition!
  • Did you know that South Africa is the only country in the world who have allowed their staple food, maize, to be genetically modified? Now over 90% of South African maize is Bt. Maize!
  • And finally, did you know that Bt. Maize, which was supposed to increase yields and feed South Africans(and the surrounding countries) is being withdrawn, because the stem borer it was supposed to kill has become resistant?

Here is the evidence and food for thought…. http://www.ensser.org/fileadmin/files/3.4-vandenBerg-paper.pdf
