Good people,

March is here -and with it the early signs of the much awaited rains; but what caused the devastating drought, in the first place, one may ask?

  • Could it be due to inappropriate human activity driven perceived benefits ?
  • Is there any evidence miscalculated human activity is the cause of climate change?
  • Do we have evidence of environmental pollution causing human disease and ill health?

YES: Here is the evidence, as captured by a great environmentalist: Rachel Carson

  • Quote We have acquired technical skills on a scale undreamed of, even a generation ago. We can do dramatic things, and we can do them quickly. By the time damaging side effects are apparent, it is often too late or impossible to reverse our actions. If we are ever to solve the basic problem of environmental contamination, we must begin to count the many hidden costs of what we’re doing and to weigh them against the gains or advantages.” These were the words of Rachel Carson who, singlehandedly, managed to enact a paradigm shift in the way humans view the environment. Some say there is a before and after Rachel Carson in terms of how we think about the environment. Carson believed that we as humans are not separate from this living world, but in fact are a part of it.
  • On April 14, 1964, Carson succumbed to cancer and died at the young age of 56. Some of her ashes were buried next to her mother’s grave, while the remainder were scattered over the ocean…for those interested Google and read her book, the Silent Spring.Her book triggered a revolution in thinking that gave birth to the modern environmental movement, and the public outcry that resulted from her book eventually led to DDT being banned for agricultural use in the U.S. in 1972.
  • Unfortunately, DDT was simply replaced with other equally unsafe and untested chemicals — one of them beingGLYPHOSATE, the active ingredient in Roundup, which today is the most widely, used herbicide in the world. Disturbingly, we believe glyphosate may actually be worse than DDT…the evidence is piling up….
  • Is there any evidence of environmental pollution causing direct harm to human health?
  • 6 MARCH 2017 | GENEVA -More than 1 in 4 deaths of children under 5 years of age are attributable to unhealthy environments. The month of February, 2017, is here and with it the worsening drought that has been visited upon us;

  • The questions many of us are asking include; Is genetic biotechnology as applied in drought resistant GM seeds the “magic bullet” or the villain in matters climate change?
  • Can affordable, locally adapted and climate friendly agro-ecological approaches provide sustainable, safe, healthier and ensure food security/food sovereignty?
  • Do we have any evidence negative health consequences from GMO seeds, on the one hand and positive evidence on the other hand, of ecological organic food production as the solution?

The month of December is here with us and with it the festivities that go with it. The “food industry”, which unfairly influences agricultural food production policies, is gearing up to feed us with “junk food” and make MONEY: Big money, which they use to lobby policy makers.

  • The SODA and “soft drinks” industries of this world, among others, are gearing up for record sales of their sugar loaded toxic syrups and processed “junk meats” while fully aware that they are “stuffing” us with “sweet poisons” which are contributing to the high rates of obesity and related illness among all age groups, including children. WHY are they allowed to sell processed foods loaded junk foods, trans-fats and refined sugar loaded “poisoned cakes” and getting away with it?
  • It is because are backed by powerful vested “food industry” business interests who only care about PROFITS and their bottom line.
  • Do we have evidence of this? YES:

Way Forward?

The New Year is here and with it comes many resolutions:

  • Firstly, let me thank you, all, for walking with us, at OCA, by reading and hopefully putting in practical use some of the “gems” of knowledge we have been sharing, over the years, on this blog. At OCA, we believe, “Your Health is Your First Wealth”
  • Secondly, this is to let you know that we are not about to stop creating consumer awareness by sharing these behavior changing and empowering  knowledge tit bits, whose objective is to enable YOU make informed choices about your HEALTH, so that you can take CONTROL of your health and wellness. (see Sustainable Development –SDG-no. 3)
  • Thirdly, us we begin 2017, we are very alive to the increasing incidence and prevalence of non-communicable diseases(NCDs), including CANCERs; That is why we begin the year by sharing with you the good news; that cancer is not only preventable but that I CAN be “cured” by what you consume: your DIET and lifestyle:
